Def Leppard guitarist Phil Collen has opened up why he thinks the band has been able to achieve international success unlike other bands from their prime.
In a new interview with myglobalmind.com Phil Collen specifically cites producer Mutt Lange for helping the band create a sound that was borderless because the band wanted to achieve international and global success. One of the biggest reasons was because the band sang with American accents, although they were from England. Collen also notes U2 & INXS as other bands that found that same success for similar reasons.
Collens recalled that in the last couple of years he finally figured out why he always sang with the American accent was because he listened to a lot of Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder and also heard it second hand from other Brits like Mick Jagger and John Lennon.
As Def Leppard get set to head out on tour later this year (MO Tour stops here) they will be releasing a new live concert movie on blu-ray/DVD and double CD called And There Will Be A Next Time – Live From Detroit that was filmed on July 15th, 2016.
