Aerosmith fans were taken off guard last week when headlines hit: “Steven Tyler has left Aerosmith!” This was according to Joe Perry, so it seemed pretty grim. Then a few nights later, Tyler gets on stage with Perry and announced he has NOT left Aerosmith, the band he co-created 40 years ago. Now Perry’s saying it may not be the end, but Tyler and the rest of the band don’t agree on the future of Aerosmith. According to Perry, Tyler wants to a take two years off, and the rest of the band will continue with our without him.
Okaaaaaay. Do these guys need a band therapist like Metallica did in 2003? After 40 years of having Tyler front the band, would you even be interested in checking out Aerosmith without him? (Could they use the same band name with a good conscious?) It seems like a lack of communication is the center of this problem. I was lucky enough to meet Aerosmith years ago and Steven Tyler was one of the most talkative and friendly musicians I’ve ever met….meanwhile, the other guys in the band hardly spoke at all….so I can see communication might not be high on their skill set.
The news of Tyler leaving upset me, then a friend texted me to say he wasn’t upset and that Aerosmith had turned into a ”greatest hits touring band” and he thinks Tyler’s back on drunks and/or alcohol. My take – I love the band and have admired their ability to re-invent themselves over the years. I’d rather see them walk away and leave their legacy than continue without Steven Tyler. What’s your take? I’d love to see your comment….

So did you hear the latest rumor that Lenny Kravitz will take over as the front man? Interesting!

I did hear about that…sounds like their record company wants Lenny, but the band hasn’t commented. It is an interesting idea – I’d have to hear a taste to judge one way or the other.
