JD The Indestructable Fish

So I bribed my son and told him he could get a fish when he finished potty training, and now I’m amazed at this thing….

We got a beta fish since they’re supposed to not need tank cleaning as often. (That’s B.S. by the way, it gets nasty pretty quickly.)  My son refused to name the fish, so we call him “J.D.,” short for “John Doe.”  Anyway, this is one hardy fish, and despite all our worst efforts, it has managed to survive.

We forget to feed it, usually a few days each week.  JD jumped out of his container twice while we were cleaning his tank.  One time we didn’t notice for about 10 minutes, and he still hung in there.  Another time he almost made it to the garbage disposal, and barely escaped a horrible ending.  Then, the worst incident of all happened just this past weekend.  After dinner, my son tells me he was playing with the fish and “lost it.”  My husband and I raced up the stairs to my son’s room and found JD barely alive – he had been outside of the bowl for at LEAST 20 minutes.  We put him back in the bowl, and after a few seconds, he started swimming around again.  After explaining to our son that he was never to catch JD and take him out of his tank again, we shook our heads in amazement that the fish had lived.

Is this fish on some sort of mega vitamin I don’t know about?   Maybe it’s the kind of fish, but I don’t know crap about fish, so it’s all a guessing game.  Have you ever had an indestructable pet?
