Metallica’s Lars Ulrich On His “What If” Replacement Pick

In a new interview Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich revealed who he thinks would be best to replace him if he couldn’t play drums anymore.

His answer was former AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd, saying that once Metallica was past the crazy stuff like their album …And Justice For All and they got into The Black AlbumLoad he looked at Rudd for inspiration to capture “the bounce and the riffs and the feel and the groove and all that” for the band’s latter work.

Ulrich say he thinks Rudd playing with James Hetfield would “be pretty cool.”

As far if the band would ever continue forward if there was another member to leave or couldn’t play no more, Ulrich said it would depend on the circumstances, but adds “you never know what the circumstances are.”
