The remaining members of Nirvana played a six-song set for Cal Jam with a special appearance from Joan Jett.
In the first time since their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, the surviving members of Nirvana took the stage. They rocked six songs from their catalog with special appearances from Deer Tick’s John McCaulay, Brodie Dalle, and Joan Jett (killing “Smells Like Teen Spirits”).
Grohl told the crowd, “Yeah, we have someone else who wants to come up and sing a song with us. Ladies and gentlemen, would you please welcome the f*cking greatest rock ’n’ roller around… Joan Jett is here tonight!”
After thanking the Foo Fighters and Grohl, Novoselic he told the audience, “I want to hear one big cheer for Kurt Cobain.” Satisfied with the result, he patted Grohl on the shoulder, gave a thumbs-up and grabbed his accordion for final track “All Apologies.”
After taking their bows, Grohl said, “Thank you Cal Jam. We’ll see you next year. That was f*cking awesome – I hope you had a good time.”
