‘Stairway To Heaven’ Lawsuit Heading to Appeals Court

The lawsuit over the riff from Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway To Heaven” is far from over as it heads to the federal appeals court.Last June Robert Plant & Jimmy Page were sued over the riff they used for “Stairway To Heaven” by Michael Skidmore, the trustee of the Randy Craig Wolfe Trust, on behalf of the late Spirit guitarist who wrote “Taurus” and performed under the name Randy California.

The jury sided in favor of Plant & Page in the copyright infringement case.

The appeals process has now been filed by attorney Francis Malofiy in the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit with a 90 page suit claiming that Jimmy Page did rely on the “Taurus” riff to write the open of “Stairway To Heaven”. Malofiy is seeking a reversal of the previous decision and a new trial along with a jury to hear the songs & see the sheet music before giving their decision.
