Yoko Ono Gets Songwriting Credit On John Lennon’s Song

At the annual meeting of the National Music Publishers Association on Wednesday in Manhattan, New York Yoko Ono received her songwriting credit.

Yoko Ono’s name will now be listed under songwriter for Lennon’s “Imagine”, which was inspired by several of Ono’s poems in her 1964 book of poetry Grapefruit.

During the meeting, Variety reported: “NMPA CEO David Israelite showed a video from 1980 wherein John said that Yoko deserved a songwriting credit for ‘Imagine’ because of her influence and inspiration on it — and Israelite announced that in accordance with Lennon’s wish, Yoko will be added to the song as a co-writer.” No word as to when the song will officially become listed as a Lennon/Ono co-write.
