Heart’s Ann Wilson released the music video for her cover of Chris Cornell of Audioslave’s I Am The Highway.
Ann Wilson’s solo album Immortal covers songs from legendary artists such as Bowie, Tom Petty, Amy Winehouse, and Chris Cornell.
In an interview with Alternative Nation, Wilson explained why she chose I Am The Highway out of all the material that Cornell recorded throughout his career. “The Audioslave number is my favourite Chris Cornell song. It’s just all about, ‘I’m not the thing, I’m the bigger thing. I’m not your magic carpet ride in the sky’. It’s a really great song, it has a lot of particular meaning to me because Chris was my friend. The words in I Am The Highway talk about dissatisfaction, and alienation, and someone who is just on their way.”
“Whenever I hear that song I think about Chris a lot, because he was always at odds with his success. The expectations that were put on him being the voice of a generation, and a superstar of the 90’s and 2000’s and stuff was too much for him. It was really uncomfortable, and he wasn’t just bragging about being uncomfortable, he was. It was too much.”
A tribute to Cornell will be held January 16th at The Forum in Los Angeles will feature performances from members of Soundgarden, Audioslave, Foo Fighters, Metallica, and more.
Good news for Heart fans- Ann & Nancy Wilson are talking again!
