The musical biopic that follows the rise of Sir Elton John is a flamboyant musical as told from Elton’s point of view.
Taron Egerton takes on the role of Sir Elton John -one of the biggest personalities in rock- in the biopic Rocketman. Coming to theaters next week (May 31) the fantasy-filled musical will follow Elton’s life through his eyes as he chases sobriety later in life. Elton has been very involved with Egerton’s performance, even showing off the actor’s chops at an Oscars Party.
Rocketman promises to entertain and not inform. Since Rocketman is based on Elton’s life and not a true story, the movie differs from the smash musical biopic Bohemian Rhapsody by skirting the facts for the sake of fun. The biopic takes creative liberties with Elton’s life to highlight more important events, often skewing the actual timeline.
Dexter Fletcher, who stepped in to helm Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody to completion after Bryan Singer’s dismissal, is the director. The movie also stars Jamie Bell as longtime lyricist Bernie Taupin, Richard Madden (John Reid, Elton’s first manager), Bryce Dallas Howard (mother Sheila Farebrother) and Gemma Jones (grandmother Ivy Sewell).
