Now that Halloween is over, you probably have a surplus of sugar lying around. But does candy go bad? And if so, how long do you have t eat it?
The first answer is, YES! Candy can go bad. The second answer is, it depends on the candy and how it is stored.
According to LifeHacker, you have plenty of time with all of your candy to eat it before it goes bad:
- Chocolate: 8-10 months when stored in a dark, cool, & dry place
- Dark Chocolate: Up to 2 years
- Hard Candy (like lollipops): up to a year if still sealed in original packaging
- Carmel: 6-9 months
- Candy Corn: Goes bad immediately…. or if you’re weird and actually like it, 9 months
- Gum: 6-9 months
Now, we can tell you from personal experience that we’ve had these candies after their expiration date and lived to tell the tale. We’re not doctors, but we do consider ourselves candy experts.
More importantly, if you have leftover Halloween candy that lasts longer than a week you either have to will of Batman, or their is something seriously wrong with you! Again, not a doctor, just a candy expert.
