ZZ Top’s rep has confirmed that bassist Joseph ‘Dusty’ Hill has passed.
No cause of death has been announced at this time.
Billy Gibbons and Frank Beard issued a statement:
“We are saddened by the news today that our Compadre, Dusty Hill, has passed away in his sleep at home in Houston, TX. We, along with legions of ZZ Top fans around the world, will miss your steadfast presence, your good nature, and enduring commitment to providing that monumental bottom to the ‘Top’. We will forever be connected to that ‘Blues Shuffle in C.’
“You will be missed greatly, amigo.”
ZZ Top has announced that they will continue to perform with longtime guitar tech Elwood Francis picking up the duties on bass guitar.
As of the time of writing this article, we have had no word on any changes for the upcoming ZZ Top show at Ozark Amphitheatre.
We at KCMQ are deeply saddened by the news and send of our very best to the Hill family, ZZ Top, and their fans.
